1 Fees

For transparency and certainty Charterhouse will always where possible agree fixed fees in advance for advocacy, drafting, advising in writing or conference. 

Fees are calculated based on complexity of case, duration and preparation time and if pertinent the value of the case and the seniority of the barrister dealing.

On occasion it may be necessary to agree an hourly rate instead if for example the preparation time can not be determined in advance.

We remain flexible in our approach to fees and welcome discussions about individual cases.

In most instances Charterhouse barristers are happy to review instructions at no cost and with no obligation in order to indicate likely future fees.

Most Charterhouse barristers are registered for VAT and VAT numbers can be provided on request.

2 Timescales

Timescales for a case may vary depending on factors such as barristers’ availability, the type and complexity of the case, the other side’s approach and court waiting times.

Charterhouse barristers aim to provide advice and organise conferences within two weeks of instruction.

3 Terms

Charterhouse accepts instructions according to the Bar Council Standard Contractual Terms unless expressly agreed otherwise.

4 Payments

Charterhouse operates 30 day payment terms save for instances when advance payment is required or for other types of funding such as CFA (Conditional Fee Agreements).
