Emily Kay

Prior to joining Charterhouse Chambers, Emily worked as an in-house Costs Lawyer. Emily's work as a Costs Lawyer included attending CCMCs and interlocutory applications.



CRIME
Emily is regularly instructed in both the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court in a range of criminal matters, including road traffic offences, offences against the person, domestic violence, possession of offensive weapons, sexual offences and drug offences.
Some of her recent cases include:
R v G: represented the Defendant in an appeal. The Defendant had received a 9-month custodial sentence for stalking. Secured a reduction in sentence to 14 weeks in custody.
R v O: represented the Defendant in a drug drive Trial. Secured an acquittal and a Defendant's Costs Order.
FAMILY
Her family practice focuses primarily on private law matters, including child arrangements orders, non-molestation orders and occupation orders. She is also instructed in public law proceedings on behalf of parents and guardians. Emily covers all Hearing types from urgent last minute Hearings, right the way through to contested multi day Fact Finding and Final Hearings.
CIVIL
Emily’s civil practice includes acting for both Claimants and Defendants in personal injury, road traffic accident and housing disrepair and landlord and tenant matters. She has also been instructed to advise on trusts and draft Deeds of Trust.
In her spare time, Emily enjoys running and has recently completed her first half marathon. She also competes in Hyrox competitions and travels across Europe to do so. Emily is also a keen horse rider and has competed in county level shows.
